Der Wal im Wohnzimmer

The party Zukunft. is outraged by the actions of the mayor and the other parties in relation to the summer production "Meeresrauschen" in the Westerland City Hall Park. Insufficient communication, lack of involvement of the committees and unlawful treatment in the non-public part reveal the serious problems of politics and administration in the community of Sylt.

Lars Schmidt, the only community representative of the Zukunft. party, expresses his concern: "It's unbelievable how ignorant and poorly thought out the mayor is. A year ago I pointed out that we only protect our open spaces from further protest camps with our own real events However, art in public space is not an event in the sense of the right to freedom of assembly protected by the Basic Law. Unfortunately, the mayor showed no interest in my suggestions and my colleagues from the other parties were more concerned with trying to collect factually irrecoverable claims for damages from the last protest camp , instead of looking for sensible solutions."

Lasse Lorenzen, regional chairman of the Zukunft. party, is clearly critical: "It is unacceptable that we had to put off our clubs and associations as well as our youth and senior citizens for years because of a lack of budgets and now suddenly almost 100,000 euros without consideration and in violation of procurement law in in the town hall park. In the middle of an energy crisis, the lights went out in winter, now they are supposed to waste electricity in the summer. While the other parties follow the mayor's example, we are committed to responsible and future-oriented politics."

Finally, Lars Schmidt adds: "Last year there were also demonstrations in the camps for climate protection. Now the mayor and the community representatives of the other parties are supporting a decadent lighting project in midsummer. The symbolic power is enormous, but unfortunately in the completely wrong direction."

The party Zukunft. has therefore applied for an immediate review and objection to the decision to award the event contract for the summer production "Meeresrausch" in order to stop this madness. The numerous legal concerns as well as the lack of urgency and lack of transparency in the process paint a frightening picture of the quality of the mayor's work and the role of the other parties. In order to avert possible claims for damages and consequences of liability, immediate intervention by the municipal supervisory authority is required.

The party Zukunft. continues to advocate responsible, transparent and future-oriented politics in the community of Sylt. Lasse Lorenzen concludes: "More helpful than this art project are the instructions from the district of North Friesland, which urgently advised the creation of an alternative event area. This would enable the district to prohibit demonstrations and camps in the park."
